Parapup Tech Tip of the Month: Do a 5-Minute “Holiday Security Checkup”

The holidays bring time off, online shopping, and LOTS of phishing attempts. Take five minutes to protect yourself and your business:

  1. Turn on MFA everywhere (seriously… everywhere).

Email, banking, shopping apps, social media. If there’s an MFA option, flip it on.

  2. Update your devices before you travel.

Nothing says “Happy Holidays” like a surprise security patch at the airport.

  3. Use a password manager—stop reusing the same three passwords.

    It’s 2025. It’s time.

  4. Beware of fake “UPS,” “FedEx,” and “Your package is delayed” emails.

These are Decmber’s #1 phishing method. If you didn’t order anything, you definitely didn’t miss anything.

  5. Don’t online shop on public WiFi.

If you must, use your phone hotspot. Coffee shop WiFi is basically a group project with strangers.

  6. Do a quick access audit.

Old apps? Remove access. Former employees? Remove access. Ex-roommates who still somehow have your Netflix login? …you know what to do.
